The Tribes Coffee men’s team secured the Port Moresby Elite Basketball (PEB) Minor Premiership following their dominant 79-46 win over the 3K North-West Wizards, concluding the regular season yesterday night (July 28th) at Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex.
Tribes Coffee lost only one game to the CivPac Amesii in their earlier encounter but exacted revenge on Amesii last month and remained undefeated in the following matches, eventually clinching the minor premiership and capping off the normal season on a high note.
After losing to Amesii in the grand final last season, the Tribes Coffee are on a mission this season to redeem themselves, flexing their championship credentials by claiming the minor premiership and looking to go one step further to snatch the coveted title from the defending champions (Amesii).
The Tribes Coffee-sponsored club strutted their stuff and elevated their performance to another level this season, putting the competition on notice and eyeing the highly-prized elusive silverware. Redemption beckons for the men in green.
This season has been very competitive with the inclusion of two new men’s teams - Triple B Academy and Ultimax - bringing the total number of participating clubs to 8. The top 4 teams have secured their spots in the playoffs, while the remaining 4 teams have bowed out of the race.
In the women’s division, last season’s runners-up CivPac Amesii claimed the minor premiership in a tight race against the reigning champions, Tribes Coffee. Amesii, Tribes Coffee and WB Transport Kutubu Lakers are on equal points, but Amesii edged the two teams on percentage.
The playoffs will be hosted this weekend, with the finals to be staged the following weekend. The table-toppers for both divisions will face the second-placed teams in the semi-final, while the third and fourth teams will play do-or-die matches.
PEB Director Lawrence Lahari congratulated Tribes Coffee for securing the minor premiership and acknowledged the teams that earned their spots in the playoffs, while commiserating the teams that did not make it to the playoffs.
Meanwhile, these are the 2025 PEB qualified teams in the playoffs for both the men’s and women’s divisions:
Men - Tribes Coffee, CivPac Amesii, Ultimax, and Moni Plus Tamaraws.
Women - Tribes Coffee, CivPac Amesii, WB Transport Kutubu Lakers, and Pirates.
