The Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) 3x3 women’s team departed on the Gold Coast today (Friday, May 22nd) to participate in the High-Performance Camp.
The Gold Coast FIBA 3x3 event, from May 23rd to 27th, will serve as key build-up fixtures ahead of the Commonwealth Games scheduled from July 23rd to August 2nd 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland.
The schedule of fixtures focuses on daily intensive training, skill sessions, and closed-door practice games for Pacific and U23 national squads, preparing for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
The PNG 3x3 women’s team created history by qualifying for the Commonwealth Games for the first time since 2010.
Netball and rugby 7s were two other sports that competed in the 2010 Commonwealth Games hosted in New Delhi, India.
Team PNG expressed confidence in the squad and wished the players good luck and safe flight to the “Glitter Strip.”
“We wish our 3x3 basketball girls all the very best as they head to their high-performance camp on the Gold Coast, preparing for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow,” the statement said.
“Your journey is more than training - it’s a powerful reminder of the strength, skill, and determination women bring to sport every single day.
“Keep leading, keep inspiring, and keep showing the next generation exactly what’s possible.”
