After the successful inaugural season last year, the Port Moresby Elite Basketball (PEB) competition is ready to start its 2025 preseason tonight (March 5th) at the Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex.
Both CivPac Amesii men’s and women’s teams met the Tribes Coffee men’s and women’s teams in the decider last year, where the Amesii men won the inaugural title while the Tribes Coffee claimed the women’s division.
A total of 11 participants comprising 6 men’s and 5 women’s teams had taken part in the semi-professional basketball competition last season, which showcased the best talents in the nation’s capital and ended the season on a high note.
For this season, 8 men’s and 4 women’s teams have confirmed their participation, with the inclusion of three new men’s sides - Mayawala, Ultimax, and BBB - while last year’s participant, the ACL Kings have yet to confirm their participation.
The confirmed participating teams for the 2025 PEB season are: CivPac Amesii, Tribes Coffee, Togoba Coffee, Moni Plus Tamaraws, Mayawala, Ultimax, BBB, North-West Wizards (men’s division) - Tribes Coffee, CivPac Amesii, Pirates, North-West Wizards (women’s division).
The preseason will run throughout March, with the proper season expected to commence in April. The games will be played every Wednesday night, with the possibility of hosting some games on Sundays.
The 2025 Port Moresby Elite Basketball competition promises to deliver another exciting season as the men’s and women’s teams rise to the occasion to battle for supremacy and stake their claim on the coveted championship trophy.
Tipping off the double-header preseason challenge tonight, the newcomers Mayawala will take on the Tamaraws at 6:00 pm followed by the reigning champions Amesii to meet the other newcomers Ultimax at 7:30 pm.
The women’s preseason games will be announced at a later date, including the other men’s matches.
