The Port Moresby Elite Basketball (PEB) concluded its pre-season games during the Easter weekend and is looking forward to starting the proper season soon.
Each team played 3 games from Friday to Sunday, with eight men’s and five women’s sides competing in their respective divisions.
Last year’s teams have confirmed their participation for the 2026 season, except for the two new additions in the men’s division, the Southern Sailors and Bulls.
PEB Director Lawrence Lahari explained that once all the requirements are met by the participating clubs, the proper season will commence.
“The start of the 2026 season will depend on the submission of the final team lists, completion of registration forms, and full payment of registration fees,” he said.
“Despite multiple deadlines being issued, only Tamaraws and Southern Sailors have fully completed these requirements.
“We can not proceed with the official season until all teams meet these obligations.
“This is non-negotiable as we continue to lift standards and professionalism within PEB.”
Lahari noted that the participation has been encouraging, but the competition leaves so much to be desired.
“We saw encouraging participation during the pre-season, with Amesii, Tribes, Lakers, NWW, and Pirates forming our current group,” he said.
“However, there is still significant work required to build and strengthen the women’s competition.”
The PEB director added: “PEB is built on commitment, accountability, and professionalism.
“For us to grow this league to the level we want, everyone must play their part on and off the court.”
He revealed that the PEB board aims to introduce a second-tier competition to strengthen pathways and depth within the elite competition.
Mr. Lahari urged the teams to complete all outstanding requirements as soon as possible to tip off the prosper season at the earliest.
The confirmed participating teams for the 2026 PEB competition are as follows:
Men’s
CivPac Amesii, Tribes Coffee, Moni Plus Tamaraws, ACL Kings, North-West Wizards, Triple B, Southern Sailors, Bulls.
Women’s
CivPac Amesii, Tribes Coffee, WB Kutubu Lakers, Pirates, North-West Wizards.
