Metro United edge out STC to secure NCD Governor’s Cup Netball Tourney

Metro United held off STC with a 27-24 thrilling scoreline to become the inaugural champions of the NCD Governor’s Cup Netball Tournament on Saturday, 3rd January 2026, at Rita Flynn courts.
The high-stakes decider lived up to its billing, with both teams strutting their stuff and fighting for the inaugural title.
STC started strong, leading the first quarter with a narrow margin. However, right before the half-time break, Metro United fought back to equalize the points at 16-all.
The STC girls retook the lead in the third quarter, but the resilient Metro United surged in the last quarter to upset STC with a nail-biting 3-point deficit result.
In the Plate category, the HB Turas defeated Aibara with a 26-21 margin, while the Mixed Vavis thumped the North West girls with a commanding 38-20 scoreline to claim the Bowl title.
The three-day volleyball tournament concluded on a high note, with the teams rising to the occasion and entertaining the fans while competing for the coveted Cup, Plate, and Bowl titles.
The volleyball tournament was introduced in this edition, marking a significant milestone for netball development in the nation’s capital, showcasing competitive talent and promoting women’s sport at the grassroots level.
