President Ravusiro plans to improve POMNA's facilities

The Port Moresby Netball Association (POMNA) wrapped up its round 1 of game 4 on Saturday, 9 May 2026, at Rita Flynn Courts.

Sixty-five (65) clubs featuring approximately 230 teams from U10s to U21s in the Junior Division, and the Seniors with 11 Divisions, competed fiercely over the weekend.

Over 500 fans flooded the home of Port Moresby’s netball court (Rita Flynn) to cheer for their respective teams as the players showcased their skills and determination.

POMNA President Alurigo Ravusiro noted that she was pleased with the talent on display on the weekend, but expressed concerns about the rundown facilities.

The newly appointed POMNA boss has ambitious plans to give the courts a facelift to meet the needs of the participating teams and the fans.

“We are looking to work with the PNG Sports Foundation and Venue Management to refurbish the 3 indoor courts, which have been unused since 2020 because of Covid-19,” she said.

“Additionally, we are looking to seek permission to have an additional 4 courts for our junior competition.”

She mentioned that the interest shown by the participating clubs and the fans had compelled the POMNA executives to upgrade the facilities.

“The interest has been overwhelming with women, girls, and families crowding the Rita Flynn courts each Saturday, with the juniors starting at 8:30 am,” Ravusiro shared.

“We have 65 clubs and around 230 teams estimated - a greater number makes up the juniors (U10s to U21s) and the seniors, with 11 divisions.”

President Ravusiro explained that the club membership had increased to 47% this year, which has brought added challenges to the competition.

She called for PNGSF’s intervention, saying: “We have a high-performing, competitive premier division, which draws huge crowds.

“Our challenge remains with the limited number of courts, so we are seeking PNGSF and venue management assistance to sustain athlete interest in our sport of netball.”

Round 5 of POMNA will continue on Saturday, May 16th, as teams in all divisions look forward to strutting their stuff.
