ree

The Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) is gearing up to stage its inaugural Prime Minister’s Golden Jubilee Masters Grand Final on Sunday, September 7th, 2025, at Taurama Aquatic Indoor Center in Port Moresby.

After three months of fierce battle between more than 30 teams participating in the men’s and women’s divisions, 8 teams have reached the big dance, which will see these finalists compete for the Cup and Bowl trophies, respectively.

Under the theme: “Your Health is Your Wealth” - initiated by Prime Minister James Marape in collaboration with BFPNG - the senior basketball competition aims to foster a healthy lifestyle and active living among the public servants, including people from all walks of life.

Tipping off the decider, the U10 boys and girls will showcase their skills in a curtain-raiser match, followed by the PNG men’s and women’s train-on squad games, and the golden hoopsters will conclude the day with four exciting matches.

BFPNG President David Peter acknowledged the Prime Minister for coming up with this concept and extended his appreciation to the Kumul Minerals Holdings Limited (KMHL) for its financial support, including other sponsors.

Mr. Peter also congratulated the participating teams that did not make it to the finals and thanked the fans for their support, and wished the grand finalists best of luck on the weekend.

The Honorable Prime Minister has given his fullest support to BFPNG, under the leadership of President David Peter and his executives, assuring his backing for the Golden Jubilee Masters Basketball Competition next year and onwards.

The following are the Grand Final matches in the men’s and women’s divisions vying for the Cup and Bowl titles:

  • PM & NEC vs Lakwa Stingrays (Women’s Bowl)

  • FAPNG vs PNG Ports (Men’s Bowl)

  • KSS Flames vs Next +40 (Women's Cup)

  • O.T.H.G Exodus vs Tamaraws (Men’s Cup)

Meanwhile, after the conclusion of the presentation, the Prime Minister will launch a suburb-based expansion model, which aims to capture all the suburbs in the city to take part in the PM’s Golden Jubilee Masters Basketball Competition next year.
