The Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) announced its senior men’s and women’s teams on Friday, February 21st, at Taurama Aquatic & Indoor Center (TAIC) in Port Moresby.

The players, plus the coaching staff and team management will take part in the 2025 FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup Qualifier slated from March 26-29 in Singapore.

This will be the second time for PNG to take part in the tournament, with their first participation being in 2022.

Following the conclusion of the National All-Stars Championships hosted in Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province last year, a bulk of players for both men’s and women’s divisions were selected.

After three months of rigorous and intense preparations, the final cut for both teams had been made, with 4 confirmed players and 2 non-traveling reserves in each division to take part in the forthcoming qualifier.

BFPNG President, David Peter emphasized that they had selected the players through the merit basis and were pleased with the selection, believing that these players have what it takes to represent the country well in the tourney.

“I’m delighted and honored to announce the teams for the open men’s and women’s divisions who will be representing our country in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup from March 26-29 in Singapore,” President Peter said.

“We did the last selections on the weekend with our teams composed of head coach Nick Daroa, director Gavin De La Cruz, and assistant coaches Gabriel Elavo, Michael Henry, Jordan Sere, and others who’ve assisted us.

“The team we have is based on the selection we made in Goroka last December. The selection was done independently by independent selectors.

“I’m satisfied that we’ve undertaken the due processes and the players who made the final cut were selected based on their performances.”

Both divisions comprise a few seasoned campaigners who have played in the international arena previously, coupled with emerging talents. The two teams are optimistic about making their presence felt in the 2025 FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup in Singapore.

The final lists of both Open Men’s and Women’s 3x3 teams are as follows, including the Head Coach and Team Manager:

Men - Moses Lune, Sibona Kala, Ryan Tetemo, and Moses Kairi.

Non-Traveling Reserves - Sydney Dobunaba & Augustine Kaupa.

Women - Betty Angula, Normalisha Dobunaba, Betina Dobunaba, and Hannah Kalua.

Non-Traveling Reserves - Jonitha Warabe & Hennah Kuwimb.

Head Coach - Gavin De La Cruz

Team Manager - Ronnie Pomat
