In the come-back Bougainville Pro-Boxing Tournament, PNG’s Junior Kauko Raka Versus Indonesia’s Ricky Manufoe will be the center of attention as they will take the ring in the Super Featherweight Division next month set for the Easter Weekend in Arawa, Autonomous Region of Bougainville. Manufoe will be travelling in from Indonesia accompanied by his coach, an international official from the Philippines, and Raka from Port Moresby. Other highlights to look out for include the Professional Undercard between Elias Konou Basa from Buin, South Bougainville and Central’s Andrew Aisanga while female Amateur undercard includes female boxers from the Solomon Islands and Bougainville, PNG in the Featherweight and Super Lightweight divisions. In a press release statement from the Central Bougainville Amateur Boxing Association, it stated that the program is sponsored by National Gaming Control Board and Bougainville Affairs which offers locals and visitors a chance to partake in a formal dinner-and-a-show experience showcasing PNG and Solomon Islands boxing talent in the lead up to the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands in November. “Excitement is in the air”, says President Lohial Nuau. “Technical preparations by the GOC is going well; the boxing ring maintenance has been fully completed, venue facilities upgrade is in progress with the 2nd ablution block to be completed in the next 2 weeks”. Meanwhile, President Nuau said, “We are happy with boxers’ preparations who have been in training camps the last two (2) months. Boxers in NCD and local Arawa club affiliates (North Central and South Bougainville) are all geared up and looking forward to the main event April 8”. “Solomon Islands boxing team comprising 4 boxers – 2 female, 2 male alongside their coach and manager are confirmed and eagerly anticipating the tournament as part of their Pacific Games preparations in Honiara, November this year,” Nuau said.
