The SWG TSI Valley Hunters have shown their premiership pedigree after a dominant 17-9 victory over the Supreme Industries Harlequins in round 6 of the Pepsi Capital Rugby Union (CRU) competition Premier Grade on Saturday, May 17th, 2025, at Bava Park.
Following this huge triumph over the Harlequins, the Valley Hunters have extended their perfect winning record, registering six consecutive wins and topping the standings. They have yet to taste a defeat, imposing their presence as the front runners for the coveted trophy.
The ladder leaders (Valley Hunters) wasted no time and scored a converted try in the 9th minute. After that try by the Hunters, the match turned into an arm wrestle, with the Harlequins slotting three successful penalty conversions to take a 9-7 lead at half-time.
In the second half, it was a one-sided affair as the Ensisi men revved their engine and put the Harlies under the pump, nailing a three-point penalty and scoring a converted try to put the game beyond doubt.
Coach Frank Genia was pleased with the Valley Hunters who showed a fighting spirit to come from behind to stun the formidable jesters of Bava Park.
“Good resolve again by the men (Valley Hunters). I am happy that the players’ management of the game is evolving. We got some good rewards at the end,” Genia said.
“The Harlies had some good momentum in the first half, but we managed to wrestle back in the second half and contested a few more areas of the game, which saw us create some opportunities to win the match.”
Though the Valley Hunters are the only team in the CRU competition to remain unbeaten after round 6, coach Genia mentioned that they were taking one game at a time and focusing on building the team’s cohesiveness and structure every round.
“We don’t focus on the result. There’s good belief in the group at the moment. We are trying new things every weekend and learning how to implement our game plan, which is pleasing,” he said.
The Table-topping SWG Valley Hunters anticipate continuing their undefeated run when they take on the Fincorp University Piggies in round 7 this weekend.
“We have to keep working hard and toiling away. Getting the basics right is key, especially because we are playing the Uni Piggies this weekend,” he added.
“They have threats across the park and a good forward pack, including a strong backline, with Dean Manale pulling the strings. We will prepare accordingly for the challenge.”
