Sugu Valley Basketball Association seeks sponsorship to host Christmas Games

ree

The Sugu Valley Basketball Association (SVBA), in preparation for the Peace Basketball Christmas Tournament, is seeking sponsorship to host its second edition, scheduled for 20th-24th December 2025.

After some years of tribal conflict in the Sugu Valley area of Kagua-Erave District, Southern Highlands Province, the youths from Katiloma have taken a bold step towards restoring peace and normalcy through sports.

This effort led to the formation of the Sugu Valley Basketball Association, which aimed at promoting unity among different tribal groups through youth empowerment and sports. The association hosted its inaugural tournament during the festive season last year.

SVBA serves as a platform to rebuild trust and foster collaboration by engaging young people from rival communities. It believes that by uniting the youth through sport, peace and lasting harmony will naturally follow.

The Sugu Valley Basketball Association President, Samuel Tasa, highlighted that he and his organizing committee are prepared to host the Christmas tournament, but they need financial assistance to deliver it.

“The association committee and community referees in Sugu Valley’s nine council wards are excited to host this tournament, but we need financial support from our elites in Sugu Valley and Kagua-Erave District,” Tasa emphasized.

“Sugu Valley already hosted a peaceful tournament last year, and we want to continue this year to build peace through basketball, but we need financial assistance to give cash prizes and trophies, including providing accommodation for outside teams, and meeting other costs to run the tournament successfully.

“We are now appealing to individuals and the business houses, especially the Kagua Erave District Development Authority, to support the cause during this crucial time. Investing in youth today is an investment in the future for Kagua Erave District.”

Despite these challenges, President Tasa and his committee remain hopeful, emphasizing that such sporting events will empower the youth as a key to long-term peace in Sugu Valley, including the wider Kagua-Erave District.
