ree

The STC Chiefs Women’s Touch Rugby Team have etched their names in Steamships’ sporting history after securing their fifth consecutive Managing Directors (MD’s) Cup at the 31st edition of the annual Steamies Rugby 7s Tournament held on Saturday, 4th October, 2025, at Santos National Football Stadium.

The Chiefs, who entered the tournament as four-time defending champions, once again demonstrated why they remain the team to beat in the annual corporate rugby carnival. Facing off against the spirited Pacific Palm Properties (PPP) side in a nail-biting grand final, the Chiefs triumphed with a 3–2 margin in extra time, sealing an incredible five-year reign over the MD’s Cup.

The decider was a showcase of athleticism, teamwork, and endurance, with both teams scoring a try each and heading into halftime locked at 2 points apiece (2–2). The second half was a defensive standoff, with neither side yielding ground and opening up the game.

As the clock ticked down and both sides were reduced to four players in extra time, the Chiefs executed a flawless attacking play in the dying seconds to score the match-winner, sending their supporters into wild celebration and claiming their 5th straight title.

The tournament organizers hailed the victory as a testament to the Chiefs’ discipline and unity, noting that their continued dominance reflects the team’s commitment to excellence both on and off the field.

“The Chiefs have set a new benchmark for consistency and teamwork within the Steamships Group. Their fifth MD’s Cup win is not just about sport — it’s about culture, camaraderie, and pride in performance,” a spokesperson said.

The Steamships Rugby 7s Tournament is the company’s flagship sporting event, uniting divisions from across the group — including the PPP Landlords, Gateway Sharks, Ela Beach Dolphins, Mia Mariotts, East-West Truckies, PacTow Tuggers, JV Consort Wharfers, CEL AWIs, Grand Papua Eagles, MEA Stallions, and Swire Taikoos.
