The Sports Tok Rugby 7s presented its 2025 ‘Tournament Acquittal Report’ to its platinum Naming Right Sponsors for 2025, NiuPower Limited and Kumul Minerals Holdings Limited (KMHL), demonstrating transparency and detailing how the allocated funds were used for their intended purpose during the three-day tournament from April 27 to 30, 2025.
The annual seven-a-side rugby format started in 2018 and has been running uninterrupted for eight straight years.
Sports Tok 7s made history in its 8th edition in 2025 by including a male and female team from Fiji, Devo Babas and Tagimoucia Ranadi, who came and lit up the local national tournament.
The high-flying Fijians did not fly to Port Moresby to make up the numbers. They came with all guns blazing and took the tournament by storm, imposing their presence in the three-day rugby fiesta and walking away with the top honors back to the “Soft Coral Capital of the World.”
Since NiuPower became the naming rights sponsor of the tournament, Sports Tok Rugby 7s has faithfully provided a tournament report back to NiuPower spanning four consecutive years, ensuring that every kina has been accounted for.
In a small presentation held on Monday (13th October) at NiuPower’s head office in downtown Port Moresby, the Sports Tok Rugby 7s Chairman, Benson Upas, presented the tournament acquittal report and a plaque to the NiuPower Chief Executive Officer, Michael Uiari.
“Thank you for the tournament report," Mr. Uiari said.
"I think one of our biggest challenges in this country is accountability, and you (Sports Tok 7s) demonstrated transparency by producing the report to the sponsors.
"That’s really good, and I commend Sports Tok 7s for that."
Mr. Uiari was impressed with the acquittal report presented by Sports Tok Rugby 7s, but more importantly, the statistics on social impact and audience demographics captured by the tournament.
He added that NiuPower would continue its support, ensuring that it becomes a regional event with the inclusion of Fiji and Australian teams.
The NiuPower boss expressed that it was encouraging to see the Fijians arriving on PNG’s shores for the first time and entertaining the fans with their fast-flowing and thrilling rugby skills in the premier Sports Tok Rugby 7s tournament during the long Easter weekend.
In addition, Mr. Upas also presented a copy of the Tournament Acquittal Report and a plaque to Kumul Minerals Holdings Limited (KMHL) yesterday (15th October), which was the other naming rights sponsor for the thriving tournament.
KMHL Community Affairs Manager, Dickson Terupo, received the acquittal and plaque, expressing appreciation to Mr. Upas for producing the tournament report.
Sports Tok Rugby 7s has a reputation for producing the acquittal reports to its sponsors after the conclusion of every tournament, continuing to uphold transparency and honesty.
This has been the practice since NiuPower became the platinum sponsor four years ago, including the recent sponsorship of KMHL this year.
The tournament not only creates opportunities for raw and budding talents to expose their skills but also promotes gender equality and accountability to the sponsors.
