Papua New Guinea’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) officially launched its 2025 season yesterday night (June 12) at PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
Both Hekari United FC men’s and women’s teams were crowned back-to-back champions (2023-2024) of the PSL competition in their respective divisions and are aiming to defend their titles this season.
Eight teams had taken part in the PSL competition last year and the inclusion of three new clubs in the semi-professional league this year adds the total number of participating teams to 11.
With the introduction of the Professional League in the Oceania region next year, clubs across Papua New Guinea have shown interest in entering the PSL competition to expose their players.
Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) President John Kapi Natto congratulated the eleven teams and challenged his administration, including the participating clubs and players to lift the standard of the competition.
“Congratulations to the 11 clubs that will be competing in the Premier Soccer League this season. We have regulations that govern football. I challenge all the clubs, players and management to take heed of the regulations,” Kapi Natto stated.
“Owning a club is not an easy thing. It’s not just about playing on the field, it comes with great discipline, teamwork, respect, and values that you must build in your football club.
“The sponsors spend a lot of money to support our competition. It’s a very expensive competition, that’s why we all must work together to have that dream and drive to reach the World Cup.
“I challenge all the officials and management to work hard. To the clubs and players, you must have a dream and vision to achieve it.”
Mr. Kapi Natto also expressed his appreciation to Ok Tedi Mining Limited for its timely sponsorship of the PNGFA and PSL competition this year.
“Let me acknowledge the OK Tedi Mining Limited for coming on board to sponsor the 2025 Premier Soccer League season and support PNGFA, our programs and all our leagues across the country,” Kapi Natto said.
“Over the last two years, we did not get any sponsorship. Sponsorship does not come easy, so I want to say thank you to the Managing Director of Ok Tedi for his support in making sure that football and our partnership continue throughout this nation.”
Meanwhile, round one of the Premier Soccer League kicks off this weekend in Port Moresby and Lae, respectively.
These are the eleven (11) participating clubs in the PSL competition this year:
Hekari United FC
Lae City Dwellers
Lae City FC
FC Morobe Wawens
Port Moresby Strikers
Blue Kumuls FC
Gulf Komara FC

Kula FC
