The Port Moresby Strikers got their season to a flying start following their dominant 6-0 win over the Blue Kumuls FC in the opening round of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) competition on Saturday, June 14th, 2025, at PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
The Strikers did not waste time and quickly stamped their authority in the early proceedings, netting 3 goals to take a comfortable 3-0 lead at half-time.
The men in orange continued their dominance in the second half, adding 3 more goals to strike out the newcomers (Blue Kumuls) off the pitch with a resounding 6-0 victory.
A hat-trick from striker Jordan Kaven and a goal each from Emmanuel Simongi, Philemon Eka and Matthew David was enough to shut down the new kids on the block.
Port Moresby Strikers coach Philemon Tamari was pleased with the win but admitted that there was more work to be done as this is just the beginning of the grueling season ahead.
“It’s always good to get a win in the first game, which sets the tone for the season. We have a young team, most of them are students. I give credit to the players. They were hungrier and wanted to win today,” Tamari said.
“I give credit to the players. We won the game as a team and that stood out on how we played from the back, the midfield and all the way to the back. It was a good win but there’s still room for improvement.”
Though it was a one-sided contest, coach Tamari praised the Blue Kumuls FC who showed the fighting spirit until the final whistle.
The Port Moresby Strikers will look forward to maintaining their winning streak in round 2.
