The Port Moresby Australian Football League (Aussie Rules) commenced its Round 1 of season 2026 on Saturday, May 9th, at Colts Oval.
This season will feature 11 men’s and 8 women’s teams across two divisions: A Reserve and Premier Grade, with the competition expected to run for five months.
POM AFL President Douglas Lai explained that they had two weekends of pre-season games and went for a week's break, commencing the proper season last weekend.
After two exciting pre-season rounds, the Gordons Kokofas were crowned the back-to-back men’s champions, and the Gereka Bombers claimed the women’s title.
President Lai gave a brief update for this season and confirmed that two former clubs had rejoined the competition after being absent for some years.
“It’s good to be back for the POM AFL season 2026, with two new clubs joining the competition this season,” he said.
“The two new clubs are Defence and Taurama Suns. In fact, they have been participating in the competition previously, including the 70s and 80s, so it’s good to have them back.
“Their inclusion goes to show that POM AFL is certainly improving and heading in the right direction as we continue to build the competition.”
Jaki Enterprise Limited takes over the sponsorship naming rights from Moni Plus for the 2026 POM AFL season.
