PNG Ports Edge Moni Plus to Claim Corporate Hoops Competition

ree

The PNG Ports were crowned the 2025 Corporate Hoops Champions following their gutsy 56-50 victory over the determined Moni Plus yesterday night (August 5th) at the Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex.

PNG Ports have had strong seasons since participating in the Corporate Hoops. In 2023, they bowed out in the semi-final. Last year, they made it to the grand final but lost to DataCo. This year, they came with a plan and accomplished their mission.

The eventual champions had a stellar 2025 season. They remained undefeated in their pool and maintained their unbeaten record to the finals, clinching both the minor premiership and premiership to cap off their campaign on a high note.

With momentum on their side heading into the finals, the PNG Ports dominated all four quarters to seal the deal. Despite Moni Plus showing fighting spirit to steal the win, the custodians of the ports defended the court from the get-go until the final whistle.

PNG Ports was led by battle-hardened basketballer captain Moses Lune, backed by David Peter, Malipu Peter, Betty Peter, Elsy Peter, El-Shaddai Peter, Ipai Willie, Felix Wilson, Nathan Yasi, Harold Viogo, and Nobert Kavara.

Not only did PNG Ports win the minor premiership and premiership, but two of their players, Nathan Yasi and El-Shaddai Peter, also bagged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) Awards in the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively.

Skipper Moses Lune said he was proud of his teammates for pulling off a spectacular 2025 season and ultimately claiming the premiership glory. He also thanked the PNG Ports management, organizers of Corporate Hoops, the Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea, and the participating teams for a successful season.

With the 2025 Corporate Hoops done and dusted, the PNG Ports’ players look forward to celebrating their achievements and hoping to defend their title next season.
