PNG Athletics soar


The Papua New Guinea Athletics team has achieved new heights at the Oceania Athletics Championship in Fiji, setting two national records in the 4x400m mixed and Javelin categories, respectively.

 

The new national mixed 4x400m record was set by Isila Apkup, Benjamin Aliel, Leonie Beu, and Daniel Baul, who ran 3.28.48 seconds, finishing close behind New Zealand.

 

Javelin thrower and coach Lakona Gerega, has set a new national record in the men’s javelin on Thursday, June 6th, with a throw of 66.73m, beating his old record of 63.39cm that was set at the 2022 Pacific Mini Games in Saipan, Northern Marianas.

 

Sprinter Adrian Monagi also set a new personal best in the women’s 200m sprint.
