After three weekends of exciting touch footy games, the National Capital District (NCD) Touch concluded its preseason of the Prime Minister’s Golden Jubilee Oldies on Saturday night, July 12th, 2025, at Sir John Guise Stadium.
The inaugural Prime Minister’s Golden Jubilee Masters 6-a-side touch preseason began two weeks ago, aiming to foster healthy living by encouraging public servants and employees from the private sector to take part in the competition this year.
The final round of the preseason ended over the weekend (July 12th), with the proper season to commence this weekend (July 19th), and the finals slated in September, which will take place during PNG’s 50th Independence Golden Jubilee week.
The participating teams will take part in three divisions - Open, Mixed, and Masters - with both men and women competing in those three categories.
A similar concept was first rolled out by the Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) last month, with NCD Touch joining the Prime Minister’s Golden Jubilee Oldies, and a soccer competition to be introduced later.
NCD Touch President Nelson Kopunye thanked the National Capital District Commission for its sponsorship under Governor Powes Parkop’s leadership and encouraged other teams to take part in the newly introduced competition.
“My executives and I would like to thank NCDC through Governor Powes Parkop for their sponsorship of K30,000 towards the PM’s Golden Jubilee Oldies NCD Touch Masters competition,” Kopunye expressed.
“Although the Prime Minister has given us the full support, we have not received any funding allocation yet, but NCDC has come on board to back us with K30,000. Hopefully, the Prime Minister will allocate some funds soon.
“This is the only Masters competition in Port Moresby, so we are inviting those outside from our competition (NCD Touch) to also join us.”
Meanwhile, the participating teams in the 2025 PM’s Golden Oldies NCD Touch Masters competition comprise the National Judicial Staff Services (NJSS), Department of Higher Education, Research, Science & Technology (DHERST), PNG Motors, PNG Forest Authority, Parliament Haus Tambaran, Kopunye Lawyers, NiuSky Pacific, Diplomatic Corp Brothers, Bees, Southside Kakadia, and World Vision.
