NCD Touch Set to Kick-off Proper Season

The National Capital District (NCD) Touch competition successfully ended its preseason on Sunday afternoon (March 23rd) at the Sir John Guise Stadium Multi-purpose Oval after three rounds of exciting touch footy games, with the proper season to start this Sunday (March 30th). 


With the inclusion of a few newcomers and old teams, the 2025 NCD Touch competition promises to showcase emerging talents and experienced players in the nation’s capital rising to the challenge to claim the top honors.


Ten teams have confirmed their participation in the NCD Touch competition while Water PNG, PNG Ports, National Fisheries Authority, and National Department of Health have yet to confirm their participation. The 10 confirmed participating teams are:


  1. Digicel PNG

  2. Department of Higher Education, Research, Science & Technology (DHERST)

  3. National Capital District Commission (NCDC)

  4. National Parliament

  5. NiuSky Pacific

  6. PNG Motors

  7. Fone Haus PNG

  8. Flexible Open Distance Education (FODE)

  9. Department of Agriculture and Livestock

  10. Kopunye Lawyers 


The competition consists of Open Divisions (Open Mix, Women’s & Men’s). The divisions mentioned will have their games on Sundays, while the Senior Divisions (Mix & Men’s) games will be played on Wednesday nights. 


The registration fee per team or club is K4,000, with the registration to be closed on the 30th of April. The registration fee will cover players’ insurance, medical expenses, and other associated costs of running the competition. 


On behalf of President Kopunye and the NCD Touch executives, Vice President, Buddy Mitau thanked the ten teams for confirming their participation and expressed his appreciation to the NCD Governor, Honorable Powes Parkop’s support, including the National Sports Trust Limited for providing the venue.


“NCD Touch would like to thank the office of the Governor, Hon. Powes Parkop for a sponsorship towards the NCD Touch competition, and also the National Sports Trust Limited for allowing us to use the Sir John Guise Stadium Multi-purpose Oval as our venue to host the competition,” Mitau said.


President Nelson Kopunye and his executives hope to run a competitive, family-oriented, and entertaining NCD Touch competition this year, aiming to lift the standard of touch footy in Port Moresby and producing quality players to represent NCD and PNG collectively on the biggest stage.  


Meanwhile, the registration is still open. If any business houses or government organizations wish to register their teams before the proper season starts on Sunday, March 30th, they can email the NCD Touch at: touchncd@gmail.com.
