The annual National Capital District (NCD) Governor’s Cup Rugby League tournament is gearing up to host its Grand Final fixtures across the Cup, Plate, and Bowl categories tomorrow (7th January 2026) at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium.
The biggest 2025-2026 off-season rugby league competition in the nation’s capital kicked off on December 20th last year, featuring 64 men’s teams and 10 women’s teams, with a lucrative prize money on offer in each category.
After three weeks of intense competition under Port Moresby’s unforgiving sun, six men’s and six women’s teams have survived the elimination finals, preparing to compete for the Cup, Plate, and Bowl titles.
Tournament Director Billy Aki said he was pleased with the tournament's outcome so far and looks forward to completing the finals. He also thanked Governor Powes Parkop for his continued support and acknowledged his coordinators, the participating teams, and the fans.
The following are the grand finalists in the men’s and women’s categories, ranging from Cup, Plate, and Bowl.
Men’s Cup - 54 Bears vs South City Rams
Men’s Plate - Kil Capital Maccau vs GSP Manuti Raiders
Men’s Bowl - Boroko Bulldogs vs Morata Swans
Women’s Cup - Kapomanda Ipi Park Sisters vs Tobalu Girls
Women’s Plate - Komagin Kongos vs Gerehu Vikings
Women’s Bowl - D8 Mosquitoes vs Gerehu Young Guns
The Cup winner for the men’s division will pick up K100,000, the Plate winner will collect K50,000, and the Bowl winner will settle for K30,000.
In the women’s division, the Cup champion will receive K15,000, the Plate winner will get K10,000, and the Bowl winner will walk away with K7,000.
