Doncaster Rugby League Club sign Edene Gebbie on a two-year deal

The Doncaster Rugby League Club announced the signing of PNG international Edene Gebbie on a two-year contract extension, starting this season until 2027.

Gebbie joined the Doncaster Rugby League Club for the 2025 Betfred Championship season, signing with the team in late 2024 to begin his tenure in the new year.

Before signing with Doncaster, Gebbie had a stint with the Whitehaven Rugby League Club in 2024, joining fellow Papua New Guinean Dion Aiye and playing for a season.

The journeyman began playing for Doncaster in 2025, joining compatriots Watson Boas and Jason Tali.

Gebbie scored 25 tries in 22 appearances for the Dons last season and will be looking to fire the side into the playoffs in the coming season.

Doncaster Rugby League Club released a statement, announcing: “We are delighted to confirm that the 2025 Player of the Year Edene Gebbie has signed a new two-year contract with the club.“

An elated Gebbie said: “Last year, I came in and I was struggling at first in the first few games, but things changed, and I did well, so they have asked me to come back.

"It was a good season for me, and I am happy to be here.

“I have been happy to see some more good players coming in, and I think we can do well this season. I think we will make the finals this year.”

The 30-year-old has linked back up with the Dons squad after spending the off-season and festive period in his native Papua New Guinea, for whom he has played at the international level.

Head coach Richard Horne said: “We're delighted to have Gebbie back with us for the new season.

“He made a massive impact last season, particularly with his try scoring, and we think he can produce even more this year with the players we’ve added to the group.

“He’s an exciting player, and it’s a great bit of business for us to keep him with us in the longer term.”

Doncaster Rugby League Football Club is a professional franchise based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. The club competes in the Betfred Championship, the second-tier competition of British rugby league.
