NCD FC secured their first win of the season after defeating Wawa FC with a 3-2 margin in Round 8 mid-week clash of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) today (June 24th) at PNGFA Academy in Lae, Morobe Province.
Chasing their maiden victory, the National Capital District flagship team started the match with high energy, opening the scoring through Foddy Penunu in the 23rd minute and taking a 1-0 lead.
Following NCD’s opening 1-pointer, the goals were hard to come by in the first 45-minute contest, though a few chances were created. However, in the 41st minute of the additional time, Greg Moses leveled the score at 1-1.
At the resumption, Esron Bruce put Wawa in front with a goal in the 65th minute, leading 2-1. Six minutes later, NCD responded with an equalizer through Bobby Pokana and scored again in the 90th minute through Ritzoki Tamgol to ice the game.
After seven failed attempts, the NCD-backed rookie team finally claimed its first 3 competition points, a confidence boost in preparing the players for their Round 9 match against Kula FC on Saturday, June 27th, at PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
