Gulf Komara FC held off FC Morobe Wawens to a 2-1 victory in Round 8 mid-week clash of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) today (June 24th) at PNG Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
Sitting 4th (Komara) and 6th (Wawens) on the ladder after the conclusion of Round 7, both sides competed tenaciously to secure the 3 competition points and fight for a spot in the top 4.
A tight 45 minutes of contest saw Komara’s Gani Gapi net the first goal, with the Gulf men defending their lead at halftime.
Wawens’ Joel Iah equalized the goal after Komara's goalkeeper’s mistake inside the penalty box. In the final quarter of the intense affair, Gapi scored a match-winner.
Following a hard-fought victory over the Morobe-based club, the defending champions (Komara) jumped to the 3rd spot with 15 points.
The David Aua-coached outfit anticipates continuing its winning record when the team travels to Madang to meet Madang United FC in Round 9 on Saturday, June 27th, at Laiwaden Oval.
