Hekari eyeing OFC Women’s Champions League Title

Papua New Guinea women’s undisputed “Football Queens”, Hekari Women FC, are stoked to participate in the 2026 Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Women’s Champions League.

The championship is scheduled to run from June 27 to July 10, with matches to be hosted at two venues: the National Stadium and Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara, Solomon Islands.

Seven clubs from across Oceania are set to compete in the 2026 OFC Women's Champions League. The participating clubs are divided into two groups, featuring a direct championship tournament and a qualifying stage.

Finishing runners-up three times (2023, 2024, 2025), Hekari aim to make amends this time and challenge themselves to go one step further by securing the elusive title from the back-to-back champions, New Zealand's Auckland United FC.

The PNG side has long been one of the region’s most consistent forces, combining experience, physicality, and a strong winning mentality built over years of deep tournament runs. Despite their impressive record, the title has remained just out of reach, a gap they are now aiming to close this year.

With preparations underway, the team is expected to lean on its experienced core while also integrating fresh talent into the squad. Hekari’s focus will be on turning past heartbreaks into motivation as they prepare to face the best clubs from across the Pacific.

As the tournament approaches, anticipation continues to build around whether Hekari Women FC can finally go one step further and capture their first OFC Women’s Champions League title in 2026.

In addition, the winner of the 2026 OFC Women’s League will play the Asian Confederation champions at the FIFA Champions Cup later this year.

The Hekari Women FC departed for “The Hapi Isles” (Solomon Islands) on Tuesday, June 23rd, ahead of the tournament’s official kickoff on Saturday, June 27th.

The seven participating teams are divided as follows:

Group A

  • PNG’s Hekari Women FC

  • Solomon Islands’ Henderson Eels FC

  • Fiji’s Ba Women FC

  • Vanuatu’s Tafea FC

Group B

  • New Zealand’s Auckland United FC

  • New Caledonia’s Drehu Athletico Club

  • Cook Islands’ Puaikura FC - advanced from qualifying
