The Mt Hagen Linstan Kickboxing Club from Western Highlands Province had an impressive showing at the recently concluded National Kickboxing Selection Championship hosted in Port Moresby’s Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex last Saturday, July 26th, 2025.
Seven fighters, consisting of four boys and three girls, represented the Mt Hagen Linstan Kickboxing Club in the one-day national selection event and performed exceptionally well in the nation’s capital, winning six medals but losing one bout on a split-point decision.
Competing against ten strong clubs with talented fighters from across the country, the Mt Hagen Linstan Kickboxing Club claimed 2 trophies, 4 Gold medals, and 1 Silver medal, finishing their 2025 National Kickboxing Selection Championship campaign on a high note.
Mt Hagen Linstan Kickboxing Club founder and President, Linstan Andy Supeke, praised his 7 fighters, stating: “I am overwhelmed and give credit to my fighters. They exceeded my expectations and made our club proud, including Western Highlands Province.”
President Supeke said their aim now is to represent WHP again in the upcoming international event, which will be held in Port Moresby by September. Beyond the kickboxing ring, the fighters carry out awareness campaigns in Mt Hagen to address law and order issues, alcohol consumption, drug use, violence against women, and other social issues.
Despite promoting Western Highlands in the kickboxing ring, the support has been minimal or non-existent at all. Hence, Mr. Supeke is appealing to the Western Highlands Provincial Government and business houses to support the fighters, as they prepare for the upcoming international events.
The seven fighters who represented the Mt Hagen Linstan Kickboxing Club from Western Highlands Province to participate in the 2025 National Kickboxing Selection Championship in Port Moresby are as follows, including their results:
Donald Tumbo - Draw
Samuel Wally - Draw
Sylvester Kundi - Won on TKO
Raymond James - Won on points
Vicky Nea - Lost on a split-point decision
Lilly Young - Won on points
Serina Laka - Won on points
