PNG’s Rising Kickboxing Stars Set for International Showdown in Melbourne, Australia

Three of Papua New Guinea’s most promising kickboxers are preparing for a high-stakes international fight tomorrow night, Saturday, 14 February 2026, at the iconic Melbourne Pavilion, Australia.

The contingent, led by Papua New Guinea (PNGKBF) Kickboxing Federation President and former legendary world champion Stanley "The Headhunter" Nandex, features a blend of youth and experience.

The team includes 18-year-old Brendan Simbani, a grade 10 student at Kama Lutheran High School in Goroka, and 24-year-old Kingston David, both of whom arrived in Melbourne on Wednesday. They have joined teammate Clinton Hanku (23), who has been sharpening his skills at the Prince Promotion Gym in Melbourne for the past two months.

Tomorrow’s card is a crucial opportunity for redemption following the "Rest of the World versus PNG" event held during the 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee celebrations in Port Moresby at the Rita Flynn Indoor Stadium.

Brendan Simbani is set for a highly anticipated rematch against Nassa Bunjaku. Simbani narrowly lost on points in their previous encounter in Port Moresby and is looking to come back strong to defeat his opponent on Australian soil.

Kingston David, also seeking a comeback after a previous loss, is now in his peak physical condition.

Clinton Hanku will face a formidable opponent from New Zealand, marking a major step up in his professional pathway.

Stanley Nandex emphasized that this event represents a milestone for PNG’s junior development, transitioning amateur talent to the professional global stage.

Reflecting on the evolution of the sport, Nandex challenged the fighters to use modern technology to their advantage, study their opponents’ strengths and weaknesses online, and build a precise fight plan to dismantle them.

"In my time, we never had the chance to see our opponents' videos or footage. Social media didn't exist in those days. Today, everything is exposed, so utilize those platforms," said Nandex.

He confirmed that the fighters had successfully completed their medical examinations yesterday and will proceed to the official weigh-in tonight at 6:00 PM.

Beyond the physical grind, the team has focused with a holistic approach in their preparations, incorporating daily meditation, Bible sharing, and spiritual reflection to build mental fortitude.

He said over 50 selected fighters are currently vying for the spots in the national development and selection list, so they need to perform or join the queue.

The Headhunter strongly emphasized that this was the opening of the 2026 season, with the results setting as a basis to face the challenges ahead for the fighters.

Nandex also revealed that the next fight will be hosted in Sydney on 14 March 2026, and 5 other fighters have been preparing for this upcoming bout.

President Nandex also thanked the promoter, Prince Bunjaku, for his support in funding the fighters' costs to attend this event.

The event is expected to draw a massive global audience, with coverage slated for Fox Sports and ESPN, alongside an international live stream on STREEEMS: www.streems.com.au.
