The Macovs-sponsored Honipolu Basketball Team is gearing up for the National Souths Basketball League (NSBL) Tournament, which will be hosted from 25th-28th September 2025 at the Taurama Aquatic Indoor Center in Port Moresby.
NSBL is one of the biggest annual grassroots tournaments in PNG, which is backed by the Petroleum Resource Kutubu (PRK) as a platinum sponsor, including other minor sponsors, aiming to give back to the Southern Highlands community through the sport of basketball.
After a couple of postponements, the annual NSBL tournament is confirmed to tip off in the nation’s capital tomorrow, with almost 30 teams comprising men’s and women’s divisions ready to battle for the top honors in their respective pools.
Most teams are Port Moresby-based, except a few teams from outside the metropolis, such as Kikori, Lae, Mt Hagen, and Mendi.
For Macovs Honipolu Souths, the team is made up of young and promising basketball players who are eager to showcase their skills, build connections, create camaraderie, and enjoy the family-oriented sport.
Honipolu received a timely backing from Macovs, a local engineering company, which came on board to support the team by providing two sets of uniforms (X24), walk-on shirts, and caps.
Speaking on behalf of Macovs Engineering Ltd, Project Engineer Robert Kera said: “Though the country is facing a financial crisis and businesses are not doing well, we are keen to help young people through sports.
“That's the little we can do to give back to the community, and I'm happy to present these uniforms to the young basketball team, Honipolu Souths.”
The Honipolu men’s and women’s teams sincerely thanked Macovs Engineering Ltd for its assistance, which has boosted the players’ spirits to give their best on game day.
With less than 24 hours to go, the Macovs Honipolu Souths (men & women) are energized and ready to make their mark on the floor, as they go up against some of the seasoned players in the 17th edition of the 2025 NSBL tournament.
