Port Moresby Elite Basketball Confirms Planning Framework for 2026 Season

The Port Moresby Elite Basketball (PEB) competition has released its working calendar for season 2026 to assist clubs and teams with early planning and budgeting ahead of the upcoming season.

The calendar is intended as a practical planning tool for participating teams, providing clarity around key phases of the competition, including Expressions of Interest (EOIs), pre-season, regular season rounds, finals, and the grand final window.

PEB Director Lawrence Lahari said that the early release of the calendar reflects the league’s continued commitment to professionalism and structured growth.

“This calendar is designed to help teams plan properly — from budgeting and training schedules to court bookings, transport, meals, and player allowances,” he explained.

“We understand the costs involved in running a team, and this framework allows clubs to prepare with confidence.”

For the 2026 season, PEB plans for a 7 to 8-team competition in the Men’s Division, with strong intentions to expand the Women’s Division as well, representing a slight increase from the previous season.

Games are proposed to be played:

• Midweek (Wednesday evenings)

• Sunday afternoons

The venues will include:

• Taurama Aquatic Indoor Centre (TAIC)

• Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex (SJGS)

This scheduling model is aimed at balancing competitive play, venue availability, and family-friendly access for fans and supporters.

The calendar also allows teams to plan on:

• Training frequency and load

• Indoor court bookings

• Transport and logistics

• Meals and player welfare allowances

• Overall season budgets

While the calendar remains tentative, it provides sufficient structure for teams to commence preparations as PEB works toward confirming final dates and fixtures.

“We encourage all teams to use this calendar as a guide in their preparation and budgeting,” Lahari added.

“Final confirmations will follow, but this is an important step in ensuring everyone is aligned  early.”

PEB will continue to engage with clubs, sponsors, and stakeholders as preparations progress toward another exciting season of the elite basketball competition in Papua New Guinea.
