Kusaii Hang Luzz (KHL), a local football club from Kiunga taking part in the Tabubil Soccer Association (TSA), is looking ahead to put a compelling case this season as the club chases its maiden title.
The club was established in 2014 by Christon Charles Dawaisok, aspiring to address social issues in the Olsobip and Star Mountain LLGs of Kiunga in North Fly District, Western Province.
Running in its eleventh year, the club made a few appearances in the finals, including claiming four minor premierships, but they have yet to taste premiership glory in the men’s and women’s divisions.
Kusaii Hang Luzz FC had an impressive season in all its divisions last year and won most games, lost some games, and drew a few matches. Both men’s and women’s divisions were exceptional last year, but the women’s team was suspended the whole season due to disciplinary issues.
“KHL FC consists of three divisions, Men's Premier Grade Under, U23 School Boys, and Women’s Premier. Unfortunately, the women’s division is currently suspended due to disciplinary issues. Until then, we will only run two divisions this season,” Dawaisok said.
KHL FC also reached out to Rumginae Youth Soccer (RYS), a sister association to Tabubil Soccer Association, and played two friendly matches with Medasco FC and Meso FC, who were the winners of the 2024 RYS competition.
Besides competing in the Tabubil Soccer Association, KHL FC supports other rural competitions like the Rumginae Youth Soccer with much-needed sporting equipment - corner posts, balls, referee uniforms, and goal mouth nets - to make sure football is exposed at all levels in the district.
Mr. Dawaisok said his club (KHL) is looking forward to replicating last season’s performance. However, he admitted that they needed to work hard, be disciplined, and be serious about winning the TSA competition this year.
Meanwhile, the Tabubil Soccer Association will commence its 2025 season soon and Mr. Dawaisok revealed that his KHL club is preparing to make their presence felt this season, hoping to win their first title after eleven years.
