After a disappointing 1-1 draw against Tafea FC of Vanuatu in the opening fixture of the second edition of Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Women’s Champions League on Sunday, March 10th, 2024, Hekari United FC regrouped and delivered a dominant 3-0 victory over Henderson Eels FC on Wednesday, March 13th, at Lawson Tama Stadium.
Hekari and Henderson Eels FC battled fiercely in the first half. The visitors found the back of the net in the 20th minute through Phylis Pala. The goal by Pala gave Hekari a slight 1-0 lead over the home side at the break.
The visitors maintained their momentum in the second spell, scoring two more goals through Anashtasia Gunemba (51st minute) and Christie Maneu (89th minute) to seal the deal with a strong 3-0 win.
With this crucial victory, the Erickson Komeng-coached side have kept their finals hope alive. They must maintain this momentum and win the next couple of matches, in order to qualify for the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the 2023 OFC women’s runners-up (Hekari) will meet Avatiu FC of Cook Islands on Saturday, March 16th, at Lawson Tama Stadium.
