The Gereka Bombers were crowned the 2025 Moni Plus Port Moresby AFL Premiers after holding off the Gerehu Magpies to 84.3.51 - 36.1.37 in the Senior Men’s Grand Final on Saturday, 18th October 2025, at Colts Oval.

Bombers, who finished fourth at the end of the regular season with their premiership aspirations hanging by a thread, peaked in the playoffs and won all the elimination games to reach the decider, knocking out the Magpies to claim the crown.

The Gereka men stamped their authority in the first two quarters with big margins. However, the Gerehu lads contained the Bombers’ onslaught in the third and final quarters, but the eventual champions defended their lead until the full-time siren.

After three straight unsuccessful attempts from 2023-2025, the Gereka Bombers finally clinched the elusive silverware and accomplished their mission, ending the 2025 POM AFL season with a premiership title.

Coach Mek Loi said he was proud of the team’s heroic effort and credited the players for their resilience and hard work, which eventually saw the Bombers break the hoodoo to walk away with the coveted trophy.

“Since the three elimination finals, we have struggled in the first quarter. However, the boys polished up in the grand final and started strong in the first quarter, maintaining their momentum until the final quarter,” Loi stated.

“Our senior players, such as John James, Rex Peregua, Amua Pirika, Glenn Saniong, Joe Ginara, and other Mosquitoes’ players, stood up to the challenge and delivered the win. I’m proud of the players.”

Coach Mek Loi added that this year had been challenging for the club, especially in the regular season, but he praised the Bombers, who found their mojo in the finals and won every elimination match until the big dance to win the premiership.

He also thanked the loyal fans and the players’ families for their undivided support throughout the season, which motivated the Bombers to give their best every game to reach the grand final and snatch the top honors.

Furthermore, the Port Moresby AFL President, Douglas Lai, acknowledged the competition’s major sponsor, Moni Plus, including other minor sponsors, for making the 2025 season a successful year.

President Lai also thanked his executive team and the officials, including the participating clubs and the fans for delivering a memorable year, and looks forward to hosting another successful POM AFL season in 2026.
