The Friends of Abus Na Kumu edged the Grammar Old Boys with an 8-0 win in the Cup decider to claim the eighth edition of the annual Port Moresby Fisspotts Rugby Union Inc Charity event on Saturday, 16th August, 2025, at Sir John Guise Stadium.
Fisspotts is a rugby 10s charity event, which started in 2012. The event is aimed at raising funds for charity organizations like Links for Hope PNG, PNG Children’s Foundation, and Family Sexual Violence Unit, to name a few.
Friends of Abus Na Kumu team featured a couple of former Pukpuks’ legends, who used their experience to make their presence known. The legends put on a show and stole the spotlight, ultimately walking away with the trophy.
Last year’s champions, the Kimbe Lus Fruits, unfortunately, bowed out in the quarterfinals. The West-side men were upbeat on defending their title, but the Friends of Abus Na Kumu proved too strong in the one-day charity event.
Friends of Abus Na Kumu captain Kisima Naing highlighted the importance of the tournament, acknowledging the executives of Fisspotts and the participating teams, including the major sponsor of their team.
“We’ve been taking part in the Fisspotts event for the past four years. It’s a great tournament that creates a platform to not only support the charity organizations but create camaraderie, establish networks, and build relationships,” Naing said.
“It’s for a worthy cause. We (Friends of Abus Na Kumu) are happy to take part in the tournament every year. Winning the cup was a bonus for us.
“We had a big backing from Hugo Canning, so a big shout to them. We also thank the organizers of the event and everyone involved for pulling off a successful tournament.”
Skipper Naing said the Friends of Abus Na Kumu looked forward to retaining their title next year and continuing to support the charity event.
