Will Genia praises Valley Hunters for a dominant CRU Pre-season Opener

The Capital Rugby Union (CRU) back-to-back reigning premiers, the SWG TSI Valley Hunters, mercilessly annihilated the hapless Chemcare Juggernauts with a 64-0 drubbing in the pre-season opener on Saturday, 21 March 2026, at Bava Park.

The CRU defending champions dusted off the cobwebs in dominant fashion, ruthlessly destroying the disjointed Juggernauts and sending an early warning to the competition by flexing their premiership pedigree.

The Valley Hunters exerted their absolute dominance in both halves. The high-flying Valley men pulled off 12 tries in a one-way traffic contest, scoring 29 unanswered points in the first half and adding 35 points in the second stanza to blow the Juggernauts off the park.

Former Wallabies' linchpin Will Genia helped the Hunters spark their attack in a one-sided try-scoring blitz. Genia’s experienced hands guided the SWG TSI-backed club to a comfortable victory over the Juggernauts to kick off their pre-season campaign on a high.

Will Genia said he was happy with the result, crediting coach Frank Genia and the players for producing a scintillating performance, and mentioning that his heart is always with the grassroots level.

“The win was good. The boys played well, but it’s more of a reflection on Frank as a coach and the systems he has put in place. I want to help where I can and get involved at the grassroots level,” he expressed.

“To be honest, it’s great to be back and running with the boys. I’m always supporting grassroots competitions. It’s one thing to talk about it, but for me, it’s important to get down and help the boys in training by teaching, mentoring, and sharing my experience with them.”

Genia added that his combination with the players, especially the spine, clicked: “It was awesome. There are some quality players with a great understanding of the game. I had fun playing with them.

“What I really like is that they have taken all the information I’ve been sharing with them. They have been really open and receptive, and are coachable, which is such an amazing thing.”

The Valley Hunters are chasing a three-peat, with Genia showing confidence in the boys: “They are back-to-back champions.

"What they have in place is a good coaching staff and a really good culture where the players are coachable and want to learn.

“The players want to keep getting better and are process-driven, which is an attribute you like in a professional environment.

"For me, I enjoy being part of the club and sharing my experience with the players.”
