The Port Moresby Fisspotts Rugby Union Club Incorporation hosted its 8th edition of the annual Rugby 10s Charity event at the Sir John Guise Stadium on Saturday, August 16th, 2025.
Fisspotts is a rugby 10s charity event, which was established in 2012 by President Jack Kariko and his executives.
The event is aimed at raising funds for charity organizations like the Links of Hope PNG, PNG Children’s Foundation, Family Sexual Violence Unit, and Transparency International PNG (TIPNG), to name a few.
A total of 12 teams took part in the one-day tournament over the weekend, comprising mostly former Pukpuks and rugby union players, including non-rugby participants, basically to contribute to the worthy cause.
Besides the regular participant of the annual event, the Kimbe Lus Fruits, who were the champions last year, 10 teams are Port Moresby-based, while Lae’s Morobe Great White Sharks made their debut this year.
From the proceeds raised, K10,000 each (K20,000) was presented to the Angau General Hospital Children’s Ward and the Kimbe Provincial Hospital Children’s Ward.
President Jack Kariko expressed his appreciation to the 12 participating teams or clubs, thanking the individuals and the sponsors for making this year’s event a success.
“This year’s tournament has been good. We’ve got 12 men’s teams who have registered this year. It was a really good turnout like all the other years,” Kariko said.
“Unfortunately, there were no women’s teams this year. We wanted to build on last year’s momentum with the inclusion of the women’s teams, but we couldn’t make that happen. Regardless, we are happy with the outcome of the tournament.
“We are very fortunate and happy that we can get teams, supporters, the players, and their families out here to showcase this concept. It’s good for the club and the code of rugby union.
“I want to acknowledge our sponsors for this year and over the years. We’ve had so many different sponsors come on board to support this worthy cause. We want to thank the sponsors, including the members, who have dug deep into their pockets to support this event.”
President Kariko added that he and his small executives looked forward to continuing this charity event next year to support more Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) across the country.
Meanwhile, these are the participating teams/clubs, including the champions of the Cup, Plate and Bowl categories.
