Fiji, PNG Set for International Friendlies

Updated: 3 days ago

Fiji women’s national football team (Fiji Kulas) arrived yesterday (May 28) in Port Moresby ahead of their two international friendly fixtures against PNG Lagatois slated from May 30 and June 2nd, 2025, at PNG Football Stadium.

Some of the players on both sides represented their local clubs and recently participated in the Oceania Football Confederation Women’s Champions League hosted from May 4-17 in Papeete, Tahiti.

The Kulas will be debuting four players while the bulk of the squad have a bit of experience on the international scene. The team features a very young side with a couple of experienced campaigners.

On the flip side, the home side (PNG Lagatois) assembled a mix of youth and experience, who have some of the big name players in the likes of Marie Kaipu, Nenny Elipas, Michaelyne Butubu, and Meagan Gunemba, to name a few.

Fiji Kulas coach Angeline Chua expressed confidence in the team that they have selected and touched on the importance of these two international friendlies.

“Our aim is to play more international games because it’s beneficial for the Oceania region. The more we play international matches, the more it will help us, in terms of gaining experience,” Chua said.

“We are happy with the players that were selected. We are counting on these players to give their best and represent Fiji with pride.”

PNG Lagatois coach Erick Komeng echoed similar sentiments made by coach Chua, saying, “I think the international friendly is part of the ranking, so it’s good for both teams and our preparation towards the Nations Cup.

“I will rely on the team. We have a bunch of quality players, so hopefully we can put up a good game tomorrow.”

Both sides are ready to rise to the challenge and entertain the fans, aiming to win the two international friendly fixtures, which kick off tomorrow (May 30) and end on Monday (June 2).
