Cricket PNG ends BSP Skul Kriket successfully

Cricket Papua New Guinea (CPNG) held its fourth and final BSP Skul Kriket Blast on Wednesday, 29th November, 2023, at the Amini Park, marking the conclusion of the 2023 Bank South Pacific Skul Kriket Program (BSP SKP).

The cricket blast is celebrated quarterly and is targeted to teaching juniors across the country the basic skills of cricket.

The event featured under 13 and 15 teams - boys and girls from Pari Primary, ECEM International Academy, Tengi Primary and Kila Kila Primary. Taurama Primary and Sevese Morea Primary were also participants but did not attend due to the blast coinciding with their school programs.

The event was a junior competition involving the softball format of cricket. The winners walked away with prizes and trophies.

Event Coordinator, Sakavai Gabai explained that through BSP SKP, CPNG staff conducted the cricket blast during the eight weeks of schooling term, focusing on teaching the basic skills of cricket, such as batting, bowling and fielding.

“We have a six to eight weeks program in schools and then at the end of each term, we come together for the blast. So, we bring all the schools together to at least appreciate their time and effort, especially the skills that they have acquired in the past weeks,” said Gabai.

Mr. Gabai also mentioned that this term-four cricket blast marked the conclusion of the annual BSP SKP program.

Attending the event were BSP and CPNG staff, including parents and students’ supervisors and a dance group called Poly Crew Dance.

Moreover, the cricket blast has also been conducted in the past three terms in partnership with various primary schools in the city.

Working in collaboration with all primary schools in Port Moresby city, CPNG has delivered the BSP SKP successfully and looked forward to resuming the 2024 season with its fourteenth edition.

Meanwhile, the cricket blast ended with a sub-program, addressing domestic violence. Poly Crew entertained the crowd with a ‘Domestic Violence Dance’ that relayed the key message of recognizing and advocating violence against women and girls.
