The Kramer APAC Brothers came from behind to upset the Theodist MBB Marlins with an 18-17 victory in the Pepsi Capital Rugby Union (CRU) Premier Grade Semi-final fixture on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, at Bava Park.
After 20 minutes of intense exchange of bone-crushing tackles and brutal hits, the Brothers finally opened the game up with an unconverted try from a 40-meter scrum play, taking a 5-0 lead. The Brothers got a penalty 4 minutes later and opted for a 3-pointer, increasing their lead to 8-0.
With a wave of ball possession and field territory, the MBB Marlins utilized the advantage to score their first try in the 37th minute, narrowing the margin to 8-5. Just before half-time, the Gerehu men scored again from a scrum-play to overtake the Brothers, leaving the score at 12-8.
Following the breather, the Theodist-sponsored MBB Marlins did not waste time to add another 5-pointer in the 45th minute, extending their lead to 17-8. The Marlins were on a roll to shut down the Brothers.
However, banking on their finals’ experience, the brethren took a 3-point penalty goal in the 57th minute, reducing the deficit to 17-11. With a lion’s share of possession, the men in black scored in the 60th minute and stole the win, shattering the courageous Marlins outfit with an 18-17 scoreline.
Despite losing, the MBB Marlins had an amazing season, bowing out of the race with their heads held high, while the ‘Kings of Bava Park’ survived the sudden-death elimination to meet their arch rivals, the Supreme Industries Harlequins, in the preliminary final this weekend.
The Minor Premiers and competition leaders, the SWG TSI Valley Hunters, secured their spot in the big dance last weekend following their outstanding win over the Harlequins. The winner of Brothers and Harlequins will meet the Valley Hunters in the decider on September 6th at the Santos National Football Stadium.
