Brothers beat Harlequins, booking a date with Valley Hunters in Grand Final rematch

ree

The Kramer APAC Brothers secured their ninth consecutive grand final berth following a gritty 15-10 victory over the Supreme Industries Harlequins in the Pepsi Capital Rugby Union (CRU) Men’s Premier Grade Preliminary Final on Saturday, August 30th, 2025, at Bava Park.

The arch-rivals of Bava Park locked horns and delivered a money’s worth performance. The match lived up to the hype and expectations of the fans, leaving the raucous crowd on the edge of their seats with a dramatic finish.

This thrilling preliminary final did not disappoint as the two heavyweights rose to the occasion and showcased a seesawing contest that went down to the wire, with the Brothers keeping their premiership aspirations afloat while the Harlequins gracefully bowed out of the race.

The Harlequins dominated the proceedings in the first 20 minutes of the contest, slotting a 3-point penalty conversion in the 3rd minute and scoring a try in the 20th minute to take a 10-0 lead over the Brothers.

Undeterred by the Harlies’ mounting pressure, the Brothers held their nerve and responded in the 23rd minute, narrowing the margin to 10-7. The brethren turned their screws on and put the jokers under the pump, registering an unconverted try and a penalty goal to lead 15-10 at the interval.

The match reached its climax in the second spell, with both sides putting their bodies on the line to assert their dominance. A couple of try-scoring opportunities came begging for the two arch-nemesis, but they failed to convert those chances into points, leaving the full-time score unchanged at 15-10.

Brothers' coach, Joe Kautu, was pleased with the gutsy win and credited his men for competing until the final whistle. Despite a turbulent season, with the departure of a few experienced players, the ‘Kings of Bava Park’ showed their mettle once again, thriving through adversity to book their ninth straight grand final.

Having a score to settle with the SWG TSI Valley Hunters, the determined Brothers aim to exact revenge on the reigning premiers (Valley Hunters) and reclaim the coveted silverware. The men in black are pumped to reach Mount Everest this season.

The new rivals of Bava Park will battle for supremacy in the 2025 CRU decider alongside the men’s A Grade, U23 and U20 Divisions, including the Open Women’s and lower divisions, slated on Saturday, September 6th, at the Santos National Football Stadium.
