BPNG Crowned PSNA Champions

The Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) claimed the Public Servants Netball Association (PSNA) Premier Division following their gutsy 30-28 victory over the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) on Saturday, March 1st, 2025, at Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex.

With the top honors up for grabs, both teams revved their engines and started the match in a physical and intense contest from the first quarter to the final quarter, capping off the decider in a thrilling nail-biter.

In a highly entertaining big dance that had the fans shouting at the top of their lungs, the BPNG women had the upper hand over the IRC ladies in the two opening quarters, taking an 8-5 lead in the first quarter and extending the lead to 15-11 at the break.

The last two quarters turned into an arm wrestle as both sides fought for ball possession and territorial play. BPNG continued their dominance in the third quarter, increasing the lead to 22-17 and finishing off the last quarter with a 30-28 margin.

BPNG captain Andiopa Sabadi mentioned that after an unsuccessful attempt to claim the premier division, she was relieved that they finally got the job done, crediting her teammates for sticking together as a team and acknowledging BPNG.

“I am very excited. This was our second grand final appearance in the premier division and our first championship in the premier division,” the elated Sabadi stated.

“Thanks to my teammates who played their part for us to win the grand final. It was a tough game but we managed to pull through.

“We have a mix of upcoming youngsters alongside the experienced players who stuck together as a team to defeat IRC.

“We are grateful to the Bank of PNG for allowing us to participate in the PSNA competition. BPNG has been part of the competition for a good number of years. With their consistent support, we look forward to winning more titles.”

Meanwhile, divisions 1 to 7 also hosted their finals and concluded the 2025 PSNA season alongside the premier division on a high note over the weekend.
