“BODY UNDER CONSTRUCTION”

Boxing Team PNG are on track as boxers undergoes trainings, and are keen to make it to the Pacific Games in November, Solomon Islands.

The teams 1 and 2 are progressing well with their trainings in their sparring session, fitness, gym session and strength and conditioning. This is in preparation for lead-up tournaments and the actual Pacific Games.

“Right now, our preparation’s aim is towards Pacific Games. The team isn’t finalized as yet, team one and team two are both training together,” said Assistant Coach Jack Willie.

More so, the PNG Boxing Union is looking forward to host their Trial Match on the 16th of this month. After the trial match, it will now be up to the selectors to select the best fighters to represent Boxing Team PNG to the Pacific Games.

As each boxer is hopeful to make it into Team PNG, Willie’s encouragement to them is to be true to their training session commitments to secure a spot and aim to win for their families, tribes and country.

“How you will secure your placing is in your hands. The commitment is an individual’s boxer’s hand. If you commit yourself, when trials come, you’ll win and be qualified for the Pacific Games,” Willie said.

Some of the competing boxers are John Ume, Neville Warupi, Athur Ray Lavalou, Kua Gunua, Allan Waike, Jamie Chan to name a few.
