The Australian Government’s Team Up Program partners are leading and supporting a wide range of activities linked to international days of awareness. Starting with Universal Children’s Day on November 20th, where NRL in PNG - League Bilong Laif, One Netball, Inclusive GymBad, Hook in 4 Health, and Basketball 4 Good Programs hosted a reflection workshop on Children’s rights and inclusion.

This was followed by a screening and discussion of Pawa Meri, the documentary celebrating the remarkable journey of PNG’s first female rugby league side, the Orchids, in the face of extreme discrimination.

For Women Human Rights Defenders Day on November 29th, the AFL PNG Pilai Long Senis program, which engages with communities to foster a healthy and active environment through Australian Rules Football, will visit Bomana Prison. The program will hold sessions on gender equality and health, women’s rights, wellbeing, and positive life choices.

The Basketball for Good Program, which uses basketball to initiate positive change in society, will participate in the Redvember Walk Against Violence on 30th November, supported by all Team Up programs in PNG, highlighting their commitment to ending violence against women and girls across the country.

On December 3rd, Inclusive GymBad and League Bilong Laif programs will host an event at the Taurama Aquatic Centre to mark the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, featuring Inclusive Gymbad athletes as keynote speakers.

To celebrate Volunteers Day and Human Rights Day, Hook in 4 Health and League Bilong Laif will hold a certificate presentation to recognize Team Up partner volunteers at the Hockey Pavilion.

Australia is a proud partner with PNG in advancing these joint initiatives, with partners continuing to demonstrate their shared dedication to using sport as a platform for positive change in Papua New Guinea.
