Come rain, hail, or shine, Sanny Wabo has been one of the most consistent SP PNG Hunters’ players in the past three years.
Wabo made his debut for the Hunters in 2023 and has since established himself as a key player for the team, scoring 35 tries in 49 appearances.
The elusive fullback had a sublime 2025 season and anticipates delivering another standout performance in the 2026 season.
Despite off-field issues and injury concerns, Wabo remains focused and grounded, aspiring to produce one more sterling season and helping the Hunters reach the finals.
“Sometimes I get injured, and sometimes I have family problems in the community I come from, but I have remained focused on my career because it’s my bread and butter,” he said.
Wabo admitted that though his family and the community have put him under pressure at times, they’ve always rooted for him.
“My family and the community back in Six Mile have been very supportive. They always show me love and stand behind me, especially my grandparents, so I appreciate them,” he stated.
With the departure of more than six experienced players at the back end of last season, the pocket rocket dynamo has confidence in the fresh recruits to step up to the challenge.
“We’ve lost a lot of players, but I think the young boys coming up will do well. We remain positive and look forward to the season ahead,” Wabo said.
Claiming the Man-of-the-Match in the opening round has boosted Wabo’s confidence: “Last week’s performance has boosted me to win more medals this season.”
The man in charge of the custodial role (fullback) will play his 50th game for the Hunters, and he hopes to deliver another MVP performance and light up NFS in front of his family and the fans.
