Wabag to host PNGRFL’s Annual General Meeting

The Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) announced yesterday (March 3rd) that it will convene its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, 28 March 2026, in Wabag, Enga Province.

This meeting will be the 11th AGM for the organization, with an estimated 63 associated and affiliated leagues in attendance that have met the requirements and are fully compliant with the PNGRFL’s set guidelines.

PNGRFL Chairman, Sandis Tsaka, outlined the process, saying: “Our community is our base and drives participation for our ever-growing game.

“There has been much work to see more of a presence on the ground in terms of a return for the participation of our member leagues, and having 63 members eligible this year is our biggest number since COVID, and the elections halted our game.

“We look forward to meeting and having this dialogue with our members at the end of March to highlight the progress and the impact they continue to carry out in our leagues across the country in keeping our game alive.”

The business to be transacted at the AGM, in line with governance and the organization’s constitution, will be the tabling of the Annual Report of the PNGRFL and consideration of the Audited Financial Accounts.

Chief Executive Officer Stanley Hondina commended the work of the PNGRFL’s Community Rugby League (CRL) in seeing the growth of leagues participation and capturing the interest through incentives and game development last year.

“Our team has continued to work on reaching our people and playing the game across the country, and it is no easy feat, but there has been much effort in the last three years,” Hondina said.

“We continue to strive to see more people better themselves through our sport, and this AGM is also a means of being better, highlighting and promoting good governance as PNGRFL is the custodian of the national sport.”

In his role as the PNGRFL’s Public Officer, Mr. Hondina announced the 2025 AGM eligible leagues.

“We are happy to share the following leagues that have met compliance requirements in 2025, seeing 12 associate leagues, 50 affiliate leagues, and 1 major league to attend in Wabag,” he explained.
