Storms Claim Women's Bowl Title

The star-studded Border Storms easily walked over the inexperienced Gerehu Young Gunz with a 12-0 victory during the NCD Governor's Cup Women's Bowl Grand Final on Friday, January 3rd, 2024, at the Kone Tigers Oval.

Skippered by former Orchid Veronica Waula, with a couple of Santos Cup players, the women in purple proved too strong against the courageous school girls from Gerehu Secondary.

Despite the Storms possessing strike weapons across the park, the Young Gunz were undeterred as they rose to the challenge and gave the stacked Storms outfit a run for their money.

The first half was an intense encounter. Both sides were equal to the task but the Storms had the upper hand, scoring a solo 4-pointer to take the lead at the break.

The second half was a different ball game as the Storms upped their tempo and scored two unanswered tries to claim the Bowl title with a full-time score of 12-0.

Captain Waula expressed that although they didn’t make it to the Cup grand final, let alone the Plate decider, she was grateful that they won the Bowl trophy to end their campaign on a high note.

“This was the first time for the Border Storms (women) to take part in the NCD Governor’s Cup, so we are happy to bring this team to participate in the tournament,” she said.

“There are so many teams taking part in the tournament, so we are happy to win the bowl title and look forward to next year.”
