After starring in the PNG Hunters’ dominant win over the Brisbane Tigers on the weekend (March 30th), versatile playmaker Finely Glare has succumbed to a minor injury, making way for Trevor Solu to fill the void in the hooking department.
Solu has been in the Hunters’ system for a few years but niggling injuries had a toll on his blossoming career, impeding him to unleash his full potential.
The Hela Wigmen livewire rake had a ruptured ACL injury last year and spent the rest of the season on the sideline, having fully recovered to hit the paddock again this season.
Solu mentioned that his rehabilitation had been completed, feeling refreshed and ready to play his first game of the season.
“A lot of sacrifice has been done behind the scenes, a lot of injuries and struggles, but now my body is good,” he said.
“Finley (Glare) has been good, playing an important role last weekend, but he got injured so coach Aition wanted me to step up.
“I’m ready, happy, and looking forward to playing on the weekend.”
The Southern Highlander is a utility player, just like Finley. He can cover multiple positions and has a good kicking game, especially in conversion duties.
Finley will be out for at least three weeks, so it’s a good opportunity for Solu to stamp his mark and cement the dummy-half position.
The PNG Hunters will leave for Gold Coast tomorrow (April 4th) to face the Tweed Seagulls in the QRL Hostplus Cup round 5 fixture at Cbus Super Stadium.
