The annual Sepik 9s Rugby League tournament is gearing up to host its sixth edition, slated for 26-27 January 2026, at Wewak’s Pora Oval, East Sepik Province.
The 2025 Agmark Sepik 9s tournament featured 20 teams from across various regions of Papua New Guinea, such as the Highlands, New Guinea Islands, and Southern regions, with the number expected to increase this year.
Ngip Agmark Limited was the naming rights sponsor of the tournament when it started in 2020. After five consecutive years of supporting the tournament, Agmark ended its sponsorship last year.
Following the exit of Agmark’s sponsorship, the Sepik 9s tournament rebranded its naming rights, with JS Commodity taking over the platinum sponsorship rights.
Mr. Simon acknowledged Agmark for investing in rugby league in the Sepik region over the last five years through the 9s event, ending its platinum sponsorship and passing the naming rights to JS Commodity for the first time.
Simon further expressed his appreciation to the late John Nightingale, Steven Nightingale, and the Guria family for believing in the Sepik region and its potential in rugby league.
While farewelling Agmark, Mr. Simon and his executive team welcomed JS Commodity aboard as the new naming rights sponsor of the tourney, with the company committing K50,000 to this year's event.
The champions of the 2026 JS Commodity Sepik 9s will walk away with K25,000 and a Cup, runners-up get K15,000, while the third and fourth placed teams settle for K10,000 and K5,000, respectively.
