Royals to Meet Buria Reds in Southern Confederate Club Championship Final

The Southern Confederate Club Championship saw the six Premiers of various rugby league competitions in the NCD and Central Province converge at the Sir John Guise Stadium on Friday, November 15th, 2024, to compete for a spot in the upcoming National Club Championships scheduled to be hosted in Goroka, Easter Highlands Province.

Kicking off the triple-header blockbuster, the Buria Reds (Motu-Koita Champions) ran rings around the Manunuha Tigers (Tubusereia Champions) and brought the Tubusereians into submission, registering a comprehensive victory of 70-10 to secure the big dance.

The NLM Drugons (Champions of UPNG) took on the Gulf Isou Pathway (Moresby South Champions) in the second match. This was a tightly-contested match, where the Drugons emerged victorious over the determined Isou Pathway side with a gutsy 14-10 win.

Wrapping up the day, the Sanso Royals (PRL Champions) cruised to a resounding victory, thrashing the Woodmen of Kagua (POM North-West Champions) with a 34-10 scoreline to book a date with the Buria Reds in the decider on Sunday, November 17th, at Sir John Guise Stadium.

Although the NML Drugons defeated the Gulf Isou Pathway, they couldn't make it to the final due to the points differential or percentage. The Buria Reds and Sanso Royals had superior points differential over the Drugons, so they were selected to play in the grand final.

The stage is now set for the Buria Reds and Sanso Royals, who will lock heads to battle for supremacy, with the winner to represent the Southern Confederate in the National Club Championships slated for this month in Goroka.
