The Port Moresby Soccer Association (PMSA) started its 2025 preseason games over the weekend from March 29-30 at the Bisini Football Grounds.
The first preseason competition on the weekend attracted a good number of teams and supporters. Some clubs didn’t turn up, but they ended the opening preseason games successfully.
There will be two rounds of games played during the preseason, with 8 men's and 4 women’s pools competing, and the top 2 teams in each division will qualify for the knockout stages.
PMSA coordinator Peter Matthew said they initially planned to kick off the preseason last weekend (March 22nd) but due to the bad weather, it was pushed to the 29th of March last Saturday.
“We managed to play our preseason games on Saturday and Sunday (March 29-30) after a week’s delay due to the weather conditions restricting our games, which were supposed to be played from March 22-23,” Matthew explained.
Coordinator Matthew further gave a rundown of the preseason games on the weekend, including the proper season, which will commence in a couple of weeks.
“Only a few clubs didn’t turn up, so we had about four forfeited games over the weekend, whereas all those teams who attended their respective matches enjoyed playing during the two days,” Matthew said.
“Preseason is all about clubs getting themselves prepared towards our regular season, which is about six weeks before we kick off our proper season.”
Excitement is building up as the Port Moresby Soccer Association looks forward to hosting its second preseason games this weekend (April 5-6) at the Bisini Football Grounds.
