PNGSF signs Broadcasting Agreement with EMTV

ree

The Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation (PNGSF) and Media Niugini Limited (EMTV) signed a ‘Broadcasting Agreement’ yesterday evening (30th October 2025) at Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex Foyer, which will see the national television company broadcast any sanctioned competition or tournament across the country.

Media Niugini Limited, through EMTV, won the exclusive rights to be the official broadcasting partner of PNGSF to televise in any sanctioned or accredited sports events throughout Papua New Guinea, including the PNG Games, National Championships, and so forth.

Gracing the occasion to witness the official broadcasting signing agreement between PNGSF and EMTV were the PNG Sports Foundation CEO, EMTV CEO, Telikom CEO, and Ministers of State, including the distinguished guests and dignitaries.

Telikom Limited Board Chairman, Cedric Rondoke, gave the opening speech and highlighted the significance of the partnership between EMTV and PNGSF.

“On behalf of the Telikom Limited Board, it is my pleasure to welcome you all on this very special occasion. I take the honor to thank everyone, especially the Minister for Sports,” Mr. Rondoke said.

“For a long time, as a subsidiary of EMTV, we have been looking for partnerships to broadcast sports. Sports in PNG is played by not only young people but everyone from different age categories - men, women, children, young people, old people - all of us play sports.

“And for us to come up with this agreement that we are going to sign today, I would like to thank the PNG Sports Foundation for drawing down this policy and giving one of our subsidiaries, Media Niugini Limited (EMTV), the opportunity to broadcast sports throughout PNG.”

Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science & Technology (DHERST) and Sports, Honorable Kinoka Feo, highlighted the importance of the broadcasting signing agreement between the two organizations.

“It is indeed a great honor to join you all this evening to witness and celebrate a milestone partnership, the signing of the television broadcasting rights between the PNG Sports Foundation and EMTV,” Minister Feo stated.

“This is a new era of forging a relationship with a strategic partnership between sports and media, two of the most powerful agents of influence and inspiration in our country. The power of sports and media combine to make a positive impact in the country.

“Sports play a significant role in uniting people, promoting healthy living, shaping character, discipline, and nurturing overall well-being, while also providing vast opportunities and offering greater benefits.

“The media, on the other hand, write stories about our local heroes and international icons - from Telefomin, Tari, Kieta and Kerema - when the power of sports reaches the media, the results are transformative.

“Together, they (sports & media) have the power to inspire the next generation, build patriotism, attract investment, and promote the positive image of Papua New Guinea to the region and the world.

“Today’s signing formalizes the strategic partnership that will lubricate and sustain the sports industry. Through EMVT’s broadcast and online platforms, our sports stories will now gain unprecedented visibility and commercial value.”

Former PNG Sports Foundation CEO and incumbent Regional Member for Bougainville and Minister for Internal Security and Acting Minister for Information & Communications Technology, Honorable Peter Tsiamalili Jnr, also shared a few remarks.

“I want to acknowledge the work that Minister Feo, CEO Micha James, and his staff have done to reach this milestone broadcasting agreement between the PNGSF and EMTV,” Hon. Tsiamalili said.

“I can see this particular intervention of partnership is the beginning of the next fifty years of sports in the country. I’m happy to say that today, we are witnessing the start of the product that we undertook in 2019.

“In terms of finance coming in and supporting the maintenance of the facilities, including the national federations and team PNG, this partnership will build a platform for financial freedom for sports management and infrastructure.”
